Notifications
The bell icon — what triggers a notification, and how to manage them
The bell icon in the desktop app's titlebar shows what's happened across your workspaces that involves you directly — a share, a team addition, or a task assignment — without needing to go looking for it.
What triggers a notification
| Event | You're notified when |
|---|---|
| Workspace shared | Someone shares a workspace with you |
| Artifact shared | Someone shares a single document with you |
| Added to a team | An org admin adds you to a team |
| Task assigned | Someone assigns a task to you (not when you assign a task to yourself) |
Each notification names who did it and what it was — for example, "Ada shared a workspace with you — Marketing".
Reading notifications
Click the bell to open the list, grouped into Today, Yesterday, and Older. Unread notifications show a dot and bold text; the badge on the bell itself shows how many are unread, capped at 9+.
- Click a notification to mark it read and jump straight to what it's about — the shared workspace or document, the team you were added to, or the Tasks tab.
- Mark all as read (top of the list) clears every unread notification at once, without navigating anywhere.
How up to date is it?
There's no live push for notifications yet — the bell fetches the latest list when the app opens, when the window regains focus, and on a background refresh every 60 seconds. A new notification can take up to a minute to appear if you're not actively switching back into the app.
A failed refresh (a brief network hiccup, for instance) leaves the list and badge exactly as they were rather than clearing them — you'll see the notification once the next refresh succeeds.
