Billing
Managing billing, plans, and subscriptions in Cosmo.
Cosmo offers per-seat, per-month billing. Your plan determines the features and token allocation available to your organization. Billing is managed through the web app — the desktop app shows your current plan and links to the web for changes.
Plans
| Standard | Premium | Enterprise | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $19/user/mo | $39/user/mo | Custom |
| Members | 1 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Workspaces | 5 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| MCP Connections | 10 | 25 | Unlimited |
| AI Tokens | 2M/user/day | 10M/user/day | 10M/user/day |
| Storage | 10 GB | 100 GB | Unlimited |
| History | 90 days | 365 days | Unlimited |
| Audit Log | — | Yes | Yes |
| SSO | — | — | Yes |
Token allocation is per user, per day, resetting at midnight UTC. Each member gets their own daily token budget — no shared pool, no one user starving the team. A single deep chat with context compaction can use 200K+ tokens per turn, so daily limits are sized to support sustained, intensive work.
A Free plan is also available for personal, non-collaborative use — 1 member, 3 MCP connections, 200K tokens/day, no sync.
Getting Started — 14-Day Free Trial
Every new organization starts with a 14-day free trial of the Standard plan. No credit card is required upfront.
During the trial:
- All Standard plan features are available immediately
- You won't be charged until the trial ends
- Add a payment method anytime to continue seamlessly after the trial
What happens when the trial ends?
- Payment method on file: Your Standard subscription activates automatically. You're billed per seat from that point.
- No payment method: The subscription is cancelled and your organization is moved to the Free plan. Your data is preserved.
Downgrading during the trial
If you decide Standard isn't for you, go to Settings → Billing and click Downgrade to Free. The trial ends immediately and your organization switches to the Free plan.
Managing Your Subscription
Organization Owners and Admins can manage the plan from the web app:
- Go to Settings → Billing (or visit
/org/manage?tab=billing) - View your current plan, trial status, and billing period
- Upgrade, downgrade, or manage your payment method
Click Manage billing to open the Stripe Customer Portal, where you can:
- Update your payment method
- View invoices and payment history
- Change your plan (upgrade or downgrade)
- Cancel your subscription
Upgrading
Choose your target plan and complete checkout through Stripe. Upgrades are immediate with prorated billing.
Downgrading
- To a lower paid plan: Takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep access to your current plan's features until then.
- To Free: If you're on a trial, the switch is immediate. If you're on a paid plan, the subscription is cancelled at the end of the billing period and you'll revert to Free.
Cancellation
When you cancel or downgrade to Free:
- Your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period (unless you're on a trial)
- After that, your organization reverts to the Free plan
- Your data is preserved — you don't lose workspaces, artifacts, or history
- Feature access adjusts to Free plan limits (1 member, 3 MCP connections, no sync)
Per-Seat Billing
Cosmo charges per user on your organization. The seat count is the number of active members plus any pending invitations in your organization.
- When you add a member (or send an invite), your subscription is updated with prorated billing for the remainder of the period
- When you remove a member or revoke an invite, the seat count decreases at the next billing cycle
- Pending invitations count as seats — an invite reserves a seat for the invitee before they accept
Team Management
Organization settings also include team management at Settings → Team:
- View members: See all members with their roles and join dates
- Invite members: Send email invitations with a role assignment
- Change roles: Owners can change any member's role (Owner, Admin, Member, Viewer)
- Remove members: Owners and Admins can remove members from the organization
Enterprise
Enterprise plans are managed by the Cosmo team with custom pricing, dedicated support, and tailored agreements. Enterprise features include:
- Unlimited members, workspaces, MCP connections, storage, and history
- 10M AI tokens per user per day
- Bring your own API keys (Enterprise-only)
- SSO / SAML integration
- Custom MCP server registry
- Audit logging
- Custom billing terms and invoicing
Contact sales to discuss Enterprise pricing.
Enterprise Seat Management
Enterprise organizations have a purchased seat limit agreed upon in their contract. The Billing tab in Settings → Billing shows:
- Seats used — current active members plus pending invitations
- Available — remaining seats (purchased seats minus used seats)
When your organization reaches its purchased seat limit, new member invitations are blocked until seats are freed (by removing a member or revoking a pending invite) or until your seat count is increased.
To request seat changes, plan modifications, or billing questions:
- Email support@getcosmo.app
- Reference your organization name and the change needed
Seat changes made by the Cosmo team are reflected in your Billing tab immediately.
Desktop App
The desktop app shows your current plan as a badge in the sidebar. To manage billing:
- Click your profile in the sidebar
- Select Manage organization
- Click Manage billing — this opens the web app in your browser
Plan changes made on the web are reflected in the desktop app automatically.
Payment Methods
Cosmo uses Stripe for payment processing. We accept all major credit and debit cards. Payment method management (adding, updating, removing cards) is handled through the Stripe Customer Portal.
Invoices
Invoices are generated automatically each billing period and are available in the Stripe Customer Portal. Each invoice includes:
- Base plan charge (price per seat x seat count)
- Any prorated charges from mid-cycle seat changes
FAQ
What happens to my data if I downgrade?
Your data is preserved. You keep all workspaces, artifacts, chat history, and integrations. However, feature access adjusts to the new plan's limits. For example, if you downgrade from Premium to Free, you'll be limited to 1 member, 3 MCP connections, and no sync.
Can I switch plans mid-cycle?
Yes. Upgrades are immediate with prorated billing. Downgrades take effect at the end of the billing period.
What counts as a "seat"?
Every member of your organization counts as one seat, regardless of their role (Owner, Admin, Member, or Viewer).
Do I need a credit card to start the trial?
No. The 14-day trial starts automatically when you create an organization. You can add a payment method anytime before the trial ends.
Why was my invitation blocked?
If your organization is on the Enterprise plan, invitations are blocked when the purchased seat limit is reached. Remove a member or revoke a pending invite to free up a seat, or contact support@getcosmo.app to increase your seat count.
Do pending invitations count as seats?
Yes. A pending invitation reserves a seat for the invitee before they accept. This prevents overbooking for organizations with fixed seat limits. Revoking an invitation frees the seat immediately.
Can I bring my own AI API keys?
BYO API keys are available on the Enterprise plan only. This lets you use your own Anthropic, OpenAI, or Azure AI keys for AI calls, so usage is billed directly to your accounts rather than counted against Cosmo's token quotas. Contact sales@getcosmo.app to discuss Enterprise pricing.
