Creating an organization, organization details, the one-org rule, and deleting your organization.
The Settings tab under Organization shows your organization's details and — for owners — the controls to delete it.
Open it from the web dashboard at Organization → Settings.
Creating your organization
If you sign in without belonging to an organization, the activation screen shows a short form:
- Logo — optional. PNG, JPG, GIF or WebP, up to 10 MB.
- Organization name — required.
Your organization's URL is generated from the name; there is no field for it.
Logo validation
A logo that is the wrong format or too large is rejected with a message explaining which rule it broke, and nothing is uploaded. The message clears the moment you pick a valid image — it belongs to that one attempt, so a successful upload never leaves a stale error next to the logo you just added. A rejected file also leaves any logo you had already chosen in place, so you don't lose a good pick to a bad one.
Use Remove to clear the selected logo and start over. You can also skip the logo entirely and add it later under Brand Kit in the desktop app.
If the logo doesn't upload
The organization and its logo are saved in two steps, so the logo can fail on its own. Cosmo retries once; if it still doesn't go through you'll see a notice saying the organization was created but the logo wasn't, with three ways forward:
- Retry upload — tries again against the organization that already exists. It never creates a second one.
- Pick a different image first, then retry.
- Continue without a logo — carries on into Cosmo. Add the logo later under Brand Kit.
The name is locked at this point, because the organization already exists under it.
The same applies if Cosmo can't open the new organization after creating it — you'll be told it exists and offered Try again, which retries only that step. Neither notice ever creates a second organization.
If the URL generated from your name is already taken, the error asks you to try a different organization name — that's what the URL is derived from.
Organization details
The top of the page shows your organization's name and slug. These are managed through your identity provider (Clerk) and reflected in Cosmo.
One organization at a time
Each user can have one active organization at a time. Cosmo restricts org creation so you can't accidentally scatter workspaces, members, and billing across multiple orgs.
If you already own an organization and try to create another, Cosmo blocks it and points you here to delete the existing one first. To switch to a fresh organization:
- Delete your current organization (below).
- Create the new one from the sign-in / activation flow.
Being invited to someone else's organization is unaffected — the limit is on organizations you own. You are only ever blocked from creating a new org while you still own one.
Deleting your organization
Deleting an organization is permanent and cannot be undone. It removes the org and all of its workspaces, members, and billing.
Only the organization OWNER sees the delete controls.
- Go to Organization → Settings.
- In the Delete this organization panel, click Delete org.
- Type the organization's exact name to confirm.
- Click Confirm delete.
When you confirm, Cosmo:
- Cancels billing — any active subscription is cancelled immediately (no further charges).
- Removes the identity-provider org so the deletion is final and the org can't be resurrected on your next sign-in.
- Deletes all org data — workspaces, members, invites, and connector configuration are removed via a database cascade.
After deletion you're returned to the activation screen, where you can create a new organization.
If the deletion can't fully complete (for example, a transient identity-provider outage), Cosmo does not partially delete your data — it leaves everything intact so you can safely retry. Your org data is only removed once the deletion is guaranteed to be final.
